I feel fortunate to have had experiences as a young boy, young man, and into my adult life, in the Eastern Sierras - mostly for the fun of skiing and snowboarding in the winter, but the summers have an equal beauty and set of recreation and relaxation. The skies can be so finicky for astrophotography, but they are beautiful all year around. These landscape images are almost all flukes and were taken with a Canon T4i with Samyang 14mm F/2.8 wide angle lens from various condo balconies in June Lake over the last 2 years. The shot of Orion was intended to be a time-lapse series. Unfortunately, the camera control SW on my laptop (tethered through the sliding glass door while I relaxed on the couch to keep my extremities from freezing) failed not too far into the sequence. But when I went back and looked, I was able to scavenge this single exposure image and denoise it enough to get something good out of it. It is beautiful with Orion in the upper right (you can see the pink fuzz of M42 (Orion Nebula) in the belt if you look close enough. And Sirius, the brightest star in Earth's night sky, at 25 times brighter than our own sun and only ~9 light years away, stands watch over the whole scene. The second shot is a single 30 second exposure, with the late season Milky Way seeming to jet out of the glow from the June Mountain Lodge (top of the first chair). The third shot is a beautiful sunset of the mountains just south of June Mountian, with the crescent moon rising.
